Gladys Pearl (Ridley) Dale

July 5, 1914 to November 21, 2008

With great sadness we announce the death of Gladys Dale at Red River Place, Selkirk Manitoba November 21, 2008.

Gladys was born in Pilot Mound Manitoba and spent her early years in Pilot Mound, Rossburn and Manitou. She was predeceased by her mother Alice and her father Samuel Isidor, her first husband Ivan Ridley in 1966 and only son Weldon Ridley September 13, 2008. Also predeceased by sisters Dot Turner, Minnie Dunbar and brothers Howard, Russell and Charles.

Left to lovingly remember her are second husband Edward P. Dale of Winnipeg and his family. Daughter in law Jane (late Weldon) Ridley of Kelowna BC and their children Sally Jo (Jeff) Ross, Nancy Ridley, Mary Jane and Duncan Ridley. Daughter Jacquelyn (Bob) Hodgson of Roland Mb and their children Kim Gray, Tannis (Rob) Piper, Scott Hodgson (fiance Tammy). Daughter Cathy (Allan) Poole of Arborg Mb and their children Zenith Poole, Shelly (George) Batenchuk, and Brian Poole. Also surviving are thirteen great grandchildren and dear sister in law Mabel Wilcox of Langely BC.

Gladys, through out her lifetime enjoyed everything that she participated in. When she was young she skied, skated, curled, golfed and played baseball. She grew up and married Ivan Ridley, (Pharmacist) and they bought a drugstore in Beausejour Mb where they lived for ten years. In 1950 they purchased Ridley’s Rexall Drugstore in Morden which they operated for sixteen years.  During the years in Morden, Mom played in a weekly bridge club for many years with 7 other women, now all deceased.  She was a founding member of the Morden Chapter of the Eastern Star, CGIT Leader and a member of the United Church Women.  Ivan died in 1966 after which Gladys moved to Winnipeg. She married Ed Dale in 1978 and they lived happily in Brandon for 19 years. During this time they enjoyed going south to Mesa Arizona for winter vacations for many years. Mom and Ed moved to Winnipeg to be closer to family in 1997.

Many of our fondest memories are of the years we lived in Morden where Mom and Dad provided a wonderful home for us. Mom was a very social person and loved to entertain. It seemed like we always had friends and family over for supper. When our relatives would leave we would all do the "Ridley Goodbye". We would stand at the window or out on the driveway and wave until the last car would disappear from sight. Then we would repeat the performance the next Sunday.

Mom was always a part of our lives and will be sadly missed her for her zest for life, great sense of humour, her giving nature and thoughtfulness. Mom’s memory will remain in our hearts forever.

Thank you to the staff at Red River Place Care Home for the excellent care, compassion and kindness shown to Mom for the years she lived there. You went above and beyond and it is very much appreciated. The family would also like to thank all who visited, sent cards and phoned Mom. A special thank you to Mom’s nieces Maureen Cobb and Beverely Calleric for their unending thoughtfulness to Mom.

Memorial service to be held at Doyle’s Funeral Chapel, Morden, Friday, November 28 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations are gratefully accepted at Cancer Care Manitoba.
